International Graduates Scheme (IGS)

If you are an international student in the UK and want to work in the UK after you have graduated CALL US NOW! Our advisors can help you apply for the UK’s International Graduate Visa Scheme.

What is the International Graduates Scheme?

The International Graduates Scheme is a visa scheme for international students after successfully graduating from a recognized academic institution within the UK. Given for a period of one year a graduate has complete work rights in the UK, unlike its predecessor the Science and Engineering Graduate Scheme (SEGS), which only allowed graduates with specific science and engineering subjects to work in the UK. The IGS is available to any non-EEA individual who has graduated within the UK in any course or subject. Once you are working in the UK under the IGS you can apply to switch to a different status, for example, by applying for a Work Permit or for residence under the Tier 1 (General) system.

Why apply for International Graduate Scheme?

The IGS is a good gateway into UK working life for international students that have recently graduated. It allows you to work freely, without any restrictions, for a period of 12 months. Whether you plan to stay longer in the UK by switching status or to return home after the 12 month period, the IGS offers the valuable chance to start your career with exposure to working in an international setting.

International Graduates Scheme Eligibility

To be eligible for the IGS you must:
  • Have successfully graduated from a recognised institution with a Bachelor's or a Master's or a PhD degree.
  • Have graduated within 12 months of applying.
  • Intend to work under the new immigration status.
  • Have the ability to maintain and accommodate yourself and any other dependants without resourcing to public funds.
  • Leave the UK after the period has ended unless you switch to another visa.
